What factors influence the current exchange rate between the Hungarian forint and the Polish zloty (HUF/PLN)?
The HUF/PLN currency pair shows how many Polish zlotys (PLN) are needed to buy Hungarian forints (HUF). Poland and Hungary are countries with similar economic structures, both belonging to the same region of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Consequently, global turmoil often affects both currencies to a similar extent.
The daily fluctuations in the Hungarian forint exchange rate are mainly influenced by:
- Decisions by the Hungarian National Bank (MNB) – which regulates interest rates in the country to combat inflation, which has historically been quite high in Hungary.
- The policy of the National Bank of Poland (NBP) – which manages the strength of the zloty.
- Investor sentiment towards the CEE region – when global capital flees emerging markets, both the forint and the zloty lose value against currencies such as the dollar or the euro.

Settlements with Hungary for businesses
Polish companies are extremely active on the Hungarian market. Regardless of your business profile, if you issue or pay invoices in forints (HUF), you face huge costs when using a traditional bank.
Polish banks treat the forint as a rather ‘exotic’ currency. This means wide currency spreads and high costs for international transfers. At Trejdoo, we give businesses back control over their costs:
- Exchange at wholesale rates: You exchange PLN for HUF (and vice versa) at transparent market rates.
- Cheap and fast transfers: You can transfer the exchanged forints directly from the Trejdoo platform to your Hungarian business partner’s account.
A multi-currency card – essential for holidays and business trips
Are you heading to Budapest on business or to Lake Balaton on holiday? Paying with a standard bank card there is the quickest way to end up paying over the odds for every meal or when filling up at a petrol station.
A much smarter solution is to take our multi-currency card with you. All you need to do is top up your wallet with zlotys, exchange them for forints at a great rate in our app, and pay by card when you’re there. The system will automatically recognise the currency and deduct the amount directly from your HUF balance – with no commission and no unfavourable dynamic currency conversion (DCC) at the terminals.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - HUF/PLN
How to correctly read the HUF/PLN exchange rate?
There is a particular feature regarding the forint. Due to its low face value (1 forint is just over 1 Polish grosz), banks and bureaux de change often quote the exchange rate for a bundle of 100 HUF. If you see an exchange rate of, say, 1.1200, this means that 100 forints cost 1 zloty and 12 groszy. In purely market terms on the Forex market, 1 HUF costs around 0.011 PLN.
I’ve been paid for the goods in HUF. What should I do to avoid losing out on the exchange rate?
If you transfer forints directly from Hungary to your Polish zloty account, your bank will deduct a huge spread from the amount as part of the automatic currency conversion. Instead, arrange a transfer in HUF to your free currency wallet at Trejdoo, exchange the forints for zlotys yourself at the market rate, and only then withdraw the cash to your business account in Poland.
Is it worth buying Hungarian forints in cash before travelling to Hungary?
In high-street bureaux de change in Poland, the Hungarian forint is a rare currency, which means that the spreads charged by bureau de change owners are usually very high. A much cheaper, safer and more convenient option is to exchange currency online with Trejdoo and use our free multi-currency card whilst you’re there.
What are the best times to exchange HUF for PLN?
The HUF/PLN pair is a typical currency pair in our region of Europe. You’ll find the highest market liquidity, and consequently the best quotes on the Trejdoo platform, on weekdays between 8:00 and 18:00, when the stock exchanges and financial institutions in Warsaw and Budapest are open.
